Using a vaporizer

I've heard about using vaporizers and how they can be a healthier mode of delivery as opposed to smoking, but have never seen any devices. Do any of you have experiences with vaporizers and are they easy to use for totally blind people? Thank you for your input.

I smoke electronic cigarettes as well as regular ones. An ecigarette consists of a cartridge, an atomiser (also spelled atomizer) and a battery. The cartridge contains a flavour of your choice, propylene glycol (pg) or vegetable glycerine (vg) depending on your choice, and, optionally, nicotine. The atomiser heats the liquid in the cartridge allowing the delivery of the taste and the nicotine if the latter is included. Ecigarettes aren't difficult for a totally blind person to use, particularly if you get a two-part system, like the Vapor King, that have the atomisers built into each cartridge (then called cartomizers) instead of sold separately, and the prefilled cartridges instead of the empty ones in which you need to pour eliquid (also known as ejuice and other names). Hopefully, these sites can get you started.

This is the Wikipedia entry on electronic cigarette, just for a general review.

This is one of the best places to learn about ecigarettes. The forum is full of everything a newby needs to know as well as questions for a more advanced user. Be warned, though, it can be really messy with a screen reader. Still, it's doable if you've got the patience. I'm Magkisa83 over there.

There are many manufacturers of ecigarettes from the really bad to the excellent Vapor4life is one of the best in the business, perhaps the best period. The owner Steve is very personable, the service is excellent and you get freebies with your order. They have the usual tobacco flavours like Camel, Parlament, Cowboy (Marlboro), Virginia etc. but then they've got fruits, sweets, foods, drinks and all sorts of other things. Every time I turn around, he's got something new and there are sales every week. This is also where you can buy the famous Vapor King. Please, if you buy from him, e-mail me off of here and I'll give you my real name as a reference. He knows that I'm blind and I like it that way, since he's learning how valuable these products can be to us.

Here's another site that sells the Vapor King (called PR101 and PR111 here) and cartridges for it. I tried them back when they only had two flavours but they have a few more now. They're a bit cheaper than Vapor4life but you don't get all the goodies. Still, I believe they do offer free shipping. Unfortunately, they're really heavy on quitting regular cigarettes and put up the usual propaganda on them.

http://www.smokersclub.com

Both of these sites debunk most of the things said about regular smoking. Just had to put that up there given that I'm a smoker's rights advocate. These last two don't relate to esmoking.

If you'd like to know anything else, just ask, either on here or offlist and I'll respond. Happy vaping!

I forgot to mention that the nicotine levels in the cartridges at Vapor4life are 0mg, 4mg (which is what I vape), 8mg, 11mg, 16mg, 24mg and 36mg. Sometimes, they don't have all levels of a flavour in stock but he always updates them and is quick to let you know in the rare case that he hasn't done so. The ones at Premiumecigarette contain 0mg, 6mg, 11mg and 16mg. I'd strongly recommendstarting with a smaller dose and only working your way up if you need to. As totally blind people, we can't use eliquid and do the trick, called dripping, that lets the sighted know just how much nicotine they've taken in. But I find that my body always lets me know.

I think this would also be a good thing to try if you want to smoke, but don't want to smoke regular cigarettes, or if you want to quit altogether. I've heard the patch rarely works for those who want to quit, because you're not actually going through the motions of smoking.

...so allow me to give my first thot on all of this

When I first read, "Using a vaporizer"
and the topic under the Board, "Health and Wellness"
I thot the discussion would be about whether using
a vaporizer in the sick/flu room
as in like a Vick's Vaporizer.. :)

That is what I thought also.

As far as the patch goes, I have been smoke free for three years and don't miss smoking at all!

I do know that the patch doesn't work for everyone.

Well, exactly. That's what I mean. If it's nicotine that gets you, well, then, the patch might be the way to go, but if smoking is just a habitual, wanting something to do with your hands, sort of thing, the patch might not be such a good idea.

I agree with you.
